Stuff

It's amazing how much two people can accumulate in five years. It's also amazing that after 5 moves in less than 5 years we can still find things to get rid of. We took two full loads of stuff to Goodwill, including: a tv, a twin bed, various dvds and board games, Zac's suit he wore once before growing out of it, and 2 bags of clothes I realize would probably never be quite me again after twins.

It's hard to believe we have moved 5 times. I guess there are some positives from all those moves--we are moving experts after all that and transitions don't seem quite so overwhelming.

I think back to our first move together. Zac and I piled up all our (borrowed, handed down, etc.) belongings onto the back of his truck and an open bed trailer. We truly were a picture of the Beverly hill billies moving out west. If my photo album was unpacked I'd show you a picture.

Our second move to the townhouse in Iowa after we sold our house quicker than expected was a pretty easy move...well, easy for me to say. I played with Ethan, our friends' then two year old while the guys packed our first actual moving truck.

Two months later it was time to drag our stuff back to the Mid-Ohio valley. This time we got the biggest truck yet AND towed the truck on the back. I drove my car for 13 hours while constantly looking back in my rear view mirror at the swaying and swerving moving truck following me through the longest thunderstorm of my life (while our terrified dog panted and paced in the backseat). How we made it without any major incidents is really quite unbelievable.

After deciding we would be staying in the mid-Ohio valley for at least 4 or 5 more years, we decided to take the plunge and buy a house...a house we thought we'd be bringing babies home in. Well, life doesn't always work out the way we planned (which looking back on it now was a really good reality check for us and a life lesson I think we needed to learn). After a year of lonely days and worried nights, i suppose we'd had enough. It was time for a change. A big change.

And here we are. Our stuff is in our rental house in Kentucky while we are here wrapping up this part of our lives. On Friday, we will take the trip back down where we will remain. For good...you heard it here and I'm glad I have it recorded somewhere!

Sold!

Another busy week...Thursday we went down to KY to find a place to live which we found became much more difficult after having to visualize two of everything. Luckily, out of the three houses we looked at, one was just the right size.

Friday we received a contract on our house here which was a HUGE relief. Paying two house payments was a scary proposition. Needless to say, it was a huge weight lifted off our shoulders!

Saturday the packing began. Until Friday we thought we were going to have to leave half our furniture here so the house would show well. I am excited that we can move all our stuff down so our new house will soon feel like our home.

Our plan is to move down Saturday and then come back for our last week of work and stay with both moms for a few days before moving down for good.

I broke the news to all my classes on Friday and they handled it well. I feel so much better about leaving now that I know they understand and it sounds like my sub will be a good fit too.

Mego Prego Week 10

Yesterday marked 10 weeks. Between the bloating and nausea and naps, I have found some time to truly be thankful for this stage of life. As more and more people have found out about the twins, the question I get asked the most is whether I'm nervous or overwhelmed. I'm not. Maybe it's because my due date is so far away or because there are enough distractions right now that I haven't really thought of the reality of it.
I just feel incredibly peaceful about it, like this is the way our family was to be from the very beginning. It certainly puts the last year in perspective as we wondered what God had in store for us.

Yes, it has occurred to us that putting two car seats, a double stroller, and a 90 lb. golden retriever in a Honda Civic is probably not going to work and that some ideas about life with a baby are going to be a little more complicated, but we are excited about the challenge.

At 10 weeks I certainly wasn't expecting to already have a "baby bump" but at 8 weeks I started noticing that my ability to suck it in was no longer an option. At that point, I started thinking...maybe there are two in there! Kristin noticed it first when we visited last week--but she wasn't sure if it was the baby or the spaghetti she made for dinner. Ha! That night, mom said she noticed a little bump when she gave me a hug. After looking at some other twin pregnancy blogs that compared their pregnancy with one and then with two, I realized that I am truly going to become mego prego!

The News

Kristin and Marcus are here...a happy last minute visit after hearing the news. Twins. Yes. Twins. Or was it that Zac is officially a business owner? Or was it my new teaching job I'm starting in three weeks? Or that we're moving 3 hours away and haven't packed a box?

Well, whatever the occasion, I'm glad they are here. It is time to share the news (allll of it) with everyone! A trip to grandma's will start it off today. But how do I even go about sharing all of this (or wrapping my own mind around it)?

This blog is intended to help keep everyone up to date on our lives as we move to Kentucky, start a new job, open a business, and prepare for the biggest and best change of all...t-w-i-n-s.

And for those of you who really enjoy torturing yourselves with those magic pictures that supposedly reveal an image, take a glance at this :)
