It's amazing how much two people can accumulate in five years. It's also amazing that after 5 moves in less than 5 years we can still find things to get rid of. We took two full loads of stuff to Goodwill, including: a tv, a twin bed, various dvds and board games, Zac's suit he wore once before growing out of it, and 2 bags of clothes I realize would probably never be quite me again after twins.
It's hard to believe we have moved 5 times. I guess there are some positives from all those moves--we are moving experts after all that and transitions don't seem quite so overwhelming.
I think back to our first move together. Zac and I piled up all our (borrowed, handed down, etc.) belongings onto the back of his truck and an open bed trailer. We truly were a picture of the Beverly hill billies moving out west. If my photo album was unpacked I'd show you a picture.
Our second move to the townhouse in Iowa after we sold our house quicker than expected was a pretty easy move...well, easy for me to say. I played with Ethan, our friends' then two year old while the guys packed our first actual moving truck.
Two months later it was time to drag our stuff back to the Mid-Ohio valley. This time we got the biggest truck yet AND towed the truck on the back. I drove my car for 13 hours while constantly looking back in my rear view mirror at the swaying and swerving moving truck following me through the longest thunderstorm of my life (while our terrified dog panted and paced in the backseat). How we made it without any major incidents is really quite unbelievable.
After deciding we would be staying in the mid-Ohio valley for at least 4 or 5 more years, we decided to take the plunge and buy a house...a house we thought we'd be bringing babies home in. Well, life doesn't always work out the way we planned (which looking back on it now was a really good reality check for us and a life lesson I think we needed to learn). After a year of lonely days and worried nights, i suppose we'd had enough. It was time for a change. A big change.
And here we are. Our stuff is in our rental house in Kentucky while we are here wrapping up this part of our lives. On Friday, we will take the trip back down where we will remain. For good...you heard it here and I'm glad I have it recorded somewhere!
You are staying in your rental house forever?? Just kidding! I will have to say that Kentucky feels a little more like home now that you and Zac are here!
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine trying to fit twins into the College Ave place? :) If God ever does change your plans and moves you 'back west', we're waiting with open arms!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you that you finally have certainty of where you will "end up"! Its so hard to be at peace with the future when you can't picture in your mind where it will be! Love you guys! :)
