I had my first appointment with my Winchester doctor which was full of surprises. First, she tells me that if I don't go into labor by 38 weeks that they will induce me. I had assumed I would just go as close as I could to 40 weeks, but she said it's actually detrimental to the twins to stay cramped for that long. That means we will most likely be having August babies!
Then she dropped the real bomb....The conversation went something like this:
"Our policy with twins is that you rest from 26 weeks on."
"....Exactly what do you mean by 'rest'?"
"I mean unless you are eating or using the bathroom, you should be in bed."
A.k.a bed rest. Yikes.
I had heard horror stories of women pregnant with twins being put on bed rest because they had increased signs of preterm labor, but 26 weeks!?! That would mean from June 1 to the babies' birthday, I will be confined to my bed, or perhaps the couch if I'm feeling rebellious. That means no baby shopping trips, no yard sales, no anniversary trip...the list goes on and on.
After Zac and I mauled over it for a few days, we decided that maybe she just feels like she has to say that. Maybe it won't really be that bad. For now, I'm trying not to worry about it and hope that as that time gets closer, I will continue to be healthy and the doctor will give me the okay to continue with lightened daily activities. Ultimately, we want to do what's best for the babies, so if it comes to bed rest at 26 weeks, it comes to bed rest.
That means all of you better be planning some summer trips to come keep me company for a few days! And please, please send creative ideas of how to entertain myself...
You are SO CUTE!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I will definitely come and visit you. Since I don't travel for work anymore, I get quite antsy, so I see some trips to KY in my future. Miss you guys!
