Zac and I have been together for ten whole years. That is more than 1/3 of our lives! I will try not to be too sappy but I can't help but feel overwhelmingly thankful for the relationship we have. It seems so hard these days to "make it work" but yet it's come pretty easy for us. We just love each other and have fun together and make each other a priority and that seems to work for us!
We had another doctor's appointment this week and decided to ask for some clarification on the whole bed rest. She did seem to back off a little on how strict their bedrest policy was but still insisted that we not plan any vacations or anything after 26 weeks. In lieu of this, we decided our planned five year anniversary trip to Nashville this summer probably wasn't a good idea. And true to form, Zac decided spur of the moment that this weekend would be a good weekend to take a trip together to celebrate our five (and ten) year anniversary! People always laugh at our spontaneous weekend trips but I really do think these little trips go a long way to keep us going strong.
After looking at some options, we decided to head to Mammoth Caves in southern KY. Both of us had gone as kids but didn't remember much so we thought it would be a nice, relaxing, nature-filled getaway. We decided to stay at a bed-and-breakfast--a bit of a risk but we thought if nothing else it would be an adventure! And with a 15% teacher discount and many positive TripAdvisor reviews, we figured it was worth a shot.
We arrived at Serenity Hill B&B Friday night to fresh-baked, homemade cinnamon cookies in our room and a warm greeting from our hosts, a married couple who left IT jobs in Dallas, TX for a slower paced life in the quiet hills of Kentucky. The bed was comfy, our room was huge, and we were the only guests that night so we knew breakfast in the morning wouldn't be too filled with awkward conversations with strangers. For breakfast, the hostess made greek yogurt with blueberries, agave nectar, and pomegranate juice, breakfast crepes with country ham and asparagus, and a slice of apple sauce cake with homemade chocolate caramel sauce. YUM! That was enough for the whole B&B vibe to win me over :)
Next, we headed to the caves where we ended up taking a 2 hour tour instead of the sold out 4 hour tour we had planned on taking. Someone was looking out for me because after 2 hours of "Fat Man's Misery" and "Tall Man's Agony" and 300ish steps, this girl was exhausted (and ready for lunch!). Our favorite part of the tour was hearing all the kids' hilarious and inquisitive comments and questions as we wound our way through. It gave us a little hint of all the fun trips to come! Luckily, we didn't have any whiny kids on our tour (probably similar to how Kristin and I probably were when we went) or we probably wouldn't have talked as fondly about our future trips with two in tow.
Being the awesome wife that I am, I agreed to a tour of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green that afternoon. We filled the time in between with some shopping and eating and then some more eating before we headed back to our room with a Redbox movie, a bag of Cadbury mini-eggs, and Ruffles chips.
Now it's back to reality. At least we are rejuvenated and reconnected...it also certainly helps to know that my spring break is in a week :)
So glad you had a chance to go on a "babymoon" and have some bonding time =0) By the way, come to think of it Brian and I have been together since '02 so that makes it 10 years for us as well. How funny.
